Chicago Architecture: The Best and Worst of 2010

Chicago
Chicago. Wonderful architecture and a great architectural 'culture'.

There's the prominent Chicago Architecture Foundation that actually ... gulp ... celebrates their Chicago school building with public tours and displays. Heck, the Chicago Tribune even has an architecture columnist and blog !

The Trib has a year-in-review series noting both the best in Chicago architecture and design for 2010 as well as the worst.

(Also see 'Do We Dare Squander' which I wrote after visiting the Chicago Architecture Foundation in 2008).

Urban Nation’s road trip finishes up in Chicago, where we examine the demolition of the Cabrini-Green housing project, and the Cloud Gate sculpture in Millenium Park, and how they both teach us the same lesson about urban policy.

Thanks for posting the links! I spent some time in Chicago last summer and I was also impressed by the "architecture culture" that exists there. People there take design pretty seriously, and I think that consciousness pays dividends in terms of the excellent urban environment they have - a rarity in the sprawled out midwest.

On the local front, I'm glad that the Free Press has finally started publishing an architectural column again. However, I wish it ran a little more frequently than once or twice a month...
