Farewell, Windsor Hotel

 

Here's my look back at the history of the Windsor Hotel that opened as LaClaire Hall in 1904. In February 2023 it is in the process of being sold and the remaining residents have until April to leave. 

Sadly, that's around 25 people on the bottom rung of the housing ladder now looking for space in a market segment that has lost 1000s of units in the past few years.

Some stats that I researched for my old hotel pub crawl show that since around 2005 there are 200 less SRO Hotel rooms, 1,400 less rooming house rooms (in just the Spence and West Broadway neighbourhoods alone), and 880 less government sponsored housing units.
