R.I.P. Gordon Pinsent

Still for "A Hatful of Rain", taken Nov. 22, 1958.
University of Manitoba Archives, Tribune Collection.

R.I.P. Gordon Pinsent.

Gordon Pinsent had many Winnipeg connections. After being discharged from the military at Fort Churchill ca. 1950, he came here and worked odd jobs whilst pursuing an acting career. He was a water meter reader and a dance teacher at Arthur Murray Dance Studio for a time!

His acting career began in 1954 with the Winnipeg Repertory Theatre and then everything from Rainbow Stage to CBC TV and radio.  He joined John Hirsch and Tom Hendry’s Theatre 77 which later merged with Winnipeg Little Theatre to become the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.

Pinsent was in the first CBC Radio drama produced in Winnipeg and the first actor to set foot on stage at the Manitoba Theatre Centre's first play, A Hatful of Rain, in 1958!
