Well, there's one less mural in the West End.
Almost the same day that Where Winnipeg
declared the West End Murals Tour as the top attraction for Winnipeg
this summer, one of the more interesting examples was painted over.
"Cartoon Charlie" by Tom Andrich painted in 2005 at 661 Ellice Avenue at Furby to
honour Charles Thorson animator of characters such as Snow White, Bugs
Bunny, and Elmer the Safety Elephant.
A one-time resident of 690 Furby, Thorson would
do some of his work at the Wevel Café on Sargent Avenue. Snow White is said to be based
on one of the waitresses there.
Here is the space as it looks today.
I wish the new owners of 661 Ellice countless frustrating hours painting over the inevitable tags that will start to appear on that blank canvas very soon.
Might I suggest a mural?

Who pays for the cost on upkeep on a mural like that? West end biz? Just thinking that maybe the business didn't want to pay to repaint the mural if it needed work.
