My latest Free Press Community Review column looks back at the history of Eaton's catalogue. It was 50 years ago this month that the company announced it would do away with the iconic publication. The closure was felt particularly hard in Winnipeg, the Western hub for the catalogue, as it meant laying off over 1,500 Eaton's employees. Hundreds of others who worked for companies that supplied goods and services to the catalogue also lost their jobs.
