Central Park goes soccer mad this weekend !
Central Park Soccer Fest takes place Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14th from 10 am - 6 pm ! Eight teams of over-16s will compete for the championship, including the Winnipeg Youth Somali Association, Knox Helping Hands, International Discipleship Ministry, Jeunesse Congolese and Ethiopian Biz.
There will also be live entertainment and other great stuff going on !
I've written a lot in recent years about the rejuvenation of Central Park. I've always considered it one of Winnipeg's great urban spaces. The recent 'reclaiming' of the area by Winnipeg's African community and top-to-bottom renovation have given it a great new vibe.
If you haven't had the chance to stroll around the place this is a great opportunity to check it out.
The park itself boasts all new amenities including furniture, washrooms, play areas and splash park.
One of Winnipeg's unique architectural gems, the circa 1914 Waddell Fountain, has been restored to its former glory.
Then there's also the great architecture that rings the park. Winnipeg's first luxury apartment block, the Warwick, (the now three-spired) Knox Church and a great collection of housing styles from the 1910s to 1990s.

Good stuff.
It would be nice if the kids and adults who play soccer at Central Park (and there are many of them) had actual goal posts, though!
Never thought of that. You're right - no posts.
Maybe that will be in the 2049 renovations !
