This is just one of many examples of the sad state of housing in Winnipeg in the early 1900s as it struggled to absorb the massive influx of new immigrants to the city. The worst offender in this round of prosecution was a house on Barber Street with 31 men living in two rooms.

That is awful.
The shortage of housing, affordable and adequate housing has been a 150 year tale in Winnipeg and much of the country. Even now with hundreds of units of housing being built in the city, it is no match for the 20,000 we are expected to get every year for the next five years of new residents.
