1950 Flood Documentary

East Kildonan (Regina Leader Post, May 16, 1950)

This week back in 1950 Winnipeg was facing disaster as the main dikes protecting vulnerable parts of the city washed away under the strain. The 1950 flood covered large sections of the city and forced the evacuation of more than 100,000.

I found this three part documentary from 'back in the day' with some interesting footage and a sense of how difficult things were before Duff's Ditch.

For an fantastic collection of photos and printed items see ManitobaPhotos.com. For more AV see
CBC Archives. For my entire collection of historic flood links see this post.

I wish those in today's flood path - volunteers and homeowners alike - the best in their battle in the days ahead. I cannot imagine being in your shoes.
