It turns out that the site of St. James Collegiate tells 200 years of urban history.
It began as an HBC experimental farm, then became the family farm of John Palmer Bourke. The next generation of Bourkes split it into the Bourkevale Park housing development and Bourkevale Golf Course. The city of St. James ended up running the golf course and after World War II split the land up for St. James Collegiate, the St. James Library, St. James YMCA, Bourkevale Park and Bourkevale Community Centre.
