Tomorrow, council will rubber stamp a zoning change that will make way for the demolition of the former Christadelphian church at 610 Sherbrook Street (at Sargent). It will become a single storey, 1,800 sq ft office building. The applicant is Trusted Care Inc. / Brian McMillan which appears to be a division of Home Instead Senior Care.
The church was constructed in 1907 for the Church of Christ. In 1956 it was sold to the Christadelphians who remained there until 1999. Since then it has sat vacant.
It's a good development for an intersection that has proved remarkable resilient compared to most in the inner city. Sherbrook and Sargent boasts a Safeway (which underwent a major interior renovation just a few years back) and a major national (Royal) bank branch (and not a cheque cashing shop in sight). Prairie Stained Glass continues to call it home and recently it was announced that the derelict Picassos site, just a block over, will become a restaurant again.
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThis is the future site of Home Instead Senior Care's offices and training centre. HISC currently has it's office in the Prairie Stained Glass building across the street.
Brian McMillian started the Winnipeg HISC franchise along with his daughter Julie Donaldson about 4 years ago. Julie is now in charge of the day to day operations.
The building was demolished yesterday and there are some photos on the Home Instead Senior Care Winnipeg Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/HISC.Winnipeg
