Painted Faces in the West End

According to this Free Press article, Where Magazine has chosen the West End Murals Tour as the top tourist must-do thing in Winnipeg this year. Guided tours can be had or you can do a self guided tour. For more information check out their tour website.

I pass many of these murals in my travels. A couple of my favourites:

In Memory of John Hjollason, Sargent Ave
Road to Valour, Ellice and Valour Rd

Road to Valour won the 2008 Mural of the Year award from The Murals of Winnipeg, a great website with more pics and background info on murals around town.

They're definitely worth checking out. Even if you're a die-hard Village, Corydon or Forks person you can still make an afternoon of it - and for about half the price !

Trade off X-Cues for your latté, perhaps the Black Sheep Diner or Viva for lunch. Then to Morden's or Lange's German Bakery for sweets. If you want a little bargain shopping there's Dusty Cover Used Bookstore and the funky, new Ruby Slipper Vintage Store. End it off with a cold one, maybe even bingo, at Canada's first Legion !

I think even The Most Interesting Man in the World would enjoy an afternoon like that !
