The authors say that in the US the old 70's style policies of 'planning by bulldozer' are making a comeback in some urban centres. Similar to what we've been seeing lately on Main Street and might have seen in Point Douglas. The article states:
When no productive policy exists, demolition is the easiest way to look like the problem is being addressed. The vacant building syndrome is simply planning by default.
I thought it was an interesting read and had some local applications.
