I was sad to hear that Tim Russert died earlier today. I was not a true disciple of the U.S. Sunday morning political talk show but when I did watch, Meet the Press was my choice.
Russert didn't have the 'talking head' or 'stick up his arse' aura that you get on many of those shows. He also kept the show intelligent. There were no put downs, gimmicks, stunts or "all opinion, no intelligence" pundits that most of these shows have devolved into.
What I liked best about him was that you could tell that he absolutely LOVED what he was doing. Every week, he'd be wide eyed, curious and truly interested about the topic or guests.
I will miss that. American politics will miss that.
